Lenio Kaklea — An Alphabet for the Camera (Untitled Figures)

Choreographer Lenio Kaklea responds to a 2023 commission from Le Commun with a layered performance that transforms Diana Ross’s “I’m Coming Out” into a study of queer visual histories. A preceding video, An Alphabet for the Camera (from Analphabète, 2017), presents a catalogue of danced figures where each phrase functions as a sign. Drawing on queer artists and scenographers, the work traces how collective memory and perception teach us to love the female body through animated, ritualised gestures.
