Dogfight is a musical set in 1960s America on the eve of young Marines’ departure for Vietnam. The plot follows Eddie Birdlace, whose cruel ‘dogfight’ gamble is upended when he meets Rose, an idealistic and sincere young woman. Over a single night, the production confronts themes of masculinity, violence and empathy, blending gritty social realism with moments of tenderness. Sparse staging and intimate musical numbers highlight a painful coming-of-age and the possibility of moral change.
Directed by Valeria Bertolotto, Faire Hamlet! stages a company wrestling with performance and truth as rehearsals of Shakespeare’s prince unravel private tensions.
