Directed by Fanny Brunet and Carole Schafroth, this theatrical adaptation of Daniel de Roulet’s novel follows ten young women who emigrate to Patagonia to found an egalitarian anarchist community. Using object theatre, the production blends storytelling, projected images and reflective passages to probe anarchist utopias, working-class conditions, migration and the marginalised role of women in history. The staging is intimate and inventive, inviting thought and emotion through tactile imagery and poetic gesture.

Prima Facie, by Suzie Miller, stages a tense courtroom drama centred on Tessa, a brilliant defence lawyer whose life is upended after she becomes the victim of an assault. Directed by Elidan Arzoni and performed by Anna Budde, the production weaves urgent questions about justice, credibility and power. Rien is a poetic, clownish exploration of the human condition performed through table puppets and object theatre. Performed and manipulated by Aurélie Gourvès and Délia Sartor, the piece stages themes of possession, authority, false beliefs, rivalry, fear of the void and boredom with a minimal scenography by Henry Castres. Assistants Cristina Iosif and François Accard support the staging, while Émile Parisien provides the music. A tender, comic and slightly melancholic show for audiences from six years.

Choreographed and performed by Andalusian artist María del Mar Suárez, known as La Chachi, this hybrid flamenco piece blends reverence and deconstruction of tradition with a punk expressivity. Two musicians and a singer form a driving, looping soundscape that slowly reveals La Chachi’s silhouette as she advances, her movements coiling and breaking like the music’s escalating cycles. Visceral and hypnotic, the work explores the effort to overcome the seemingly insurmountable, building tense intimacy and ritualized ascent.

Khaled Aljaramani was born in 1972 in Suweïda, Syria, and grew up amid a rich musical tradition. From the Druze community, his early activism and imprisonment at 19 left a deep mark on his artistic voice. Recognised as one of the foremost contemporary Syrian oud players, he has led notable collaborations, notably Interzone with Serge Teyssot‑Gay. In solo performance his oud becomes voice, memory and breath, blending tradition, spontaneous improvisation and inner poetry. Presented within the JazzContreBand festival.

1 – 31 October
