Futurism

This autumn presentation, organised around a list dedicated to Futurism, brings together tracts, exhibition catalogues, journals and books that trace the movement’s restless energy and radical modernity. Among the highlights is an autograph manuscript by Giovanni Papini, containing a crucial text in the history of Futurism, alongside a Futurist letterhead adorned with the celebrated Pugno di Boccioni. The selection offers a focused encounter with rare printed matter and archival material shaped by one of the twentieth century’s most forceful avant-garde currents.

Close Encounter brings together French artist and draughtsman Jérôme Zonder and Swiss sculptor Jan Steenman in a focused dialogue on portraiture, the body, and material presence. Zonder’s small-format drawings, made with pencil, graphite, and charcoal, hover between likeness, caricature, and abstraction, while his fingertips leave visible traces in the pigment. Steenman’s ceramic sculpture Numinous explores a hidden human presence absorbed within form. Together, their works shift between recognition and estrangement, rewarding close and sustained looking.

Hadrien de Corneillan explores the industrial landscapes of the Rhône through painting, concrete prints and works on canvas. Developed during a residency with the Association pour le patrimoine industriel, his project traces the river from source to delta, reading ruins, concrete and shifting terrain as visual evidence of human intervention. The work reflects on memory, transformation and the fate of landscapes marked by industry, while drawing on the aesthetics of erosion and remnants.

5 September – 15 November

Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige present a site-specific project that juxtaposes archaeology, image and temporality. The presentation brings together works such as Palimpsests, Time Capsules and Trilogies, ranging from installations to photographic and film-based pieces. Working with archaeologists and adopting geological methods, the artists probe subterranean messages, historical ruptures and continuities, and the human and climatic forces that shape possible narratives. The exhibition foregrounds layered temporality and the politics of memory.

Geneva art, out in the vineyards. Art followed by a countryside wander? Yes, please.

2 – 27 November

To mark the 75th anniversary of the university Ciné-club, the cultural activities office of the University of Geneva presents a retrospective of emblematic posters. The selection traces several decades of film programming and campus cultural life through graphic images, typography, and changing visual styles. Rather than a simple archive, the exhibition becomes a visual narrative of cinephilia, collective memory, and the evolving role of cinema within the university community.
