75 Years of Posters from the University Film Club

To mark the 75th anniversary of the university Ciné-club, the cultural activities office of the University of Geneva presents a retrospective of emblematic posters. The selection traces several decades of film programming and campus cultural life through graphic images, typography, and changing visual styles. Rather than a simple archive, the exhibition becomes a visual narrative of cinephilia, collective memory, and the evolving role of cinema within the university community.

Swiss artist Caroline Schattling Villeval presents two video works that imperfectly replay and displace recognisable cultural gestures. One figure attempts Britney Spears’ ‘Baby One More Time’ in sign language, while another reconstructs Pipilotti Rist’s ‘Ever Is Over All’ within a digital environment. The installation probes the legibility of images, questions hearing and what remains inaccessible to the senses, and enlists the viewer in an experience of partial perception. Curator: Elise Lammer.

17 September – 7 November

Unfamiliar, Luminous, Remote marks Amit Berman’s first solo exhibition at the gallery, following an artist residency in Switzerland earlier this year. Bringing together a new body of paintings, the exhibition explores intimacy, memory and vulnerability through expressive gestures, visible layers of paint and atmospheric compositions. Moving between quiet domestic interiors, fragments of landscape and solitary figures, Berman’s works reflect on the fragile space between familiarity and estrangement, connection and withdrawal.

Created against a backdrop of war and emotional precarity, these intimate yet unsettled paintings reveal a persistent search for connection and belonging within an unstable reality.

Opening: Thursday 17 September, 18:00

Talk: Sunday 20 September, 14:30-15:30 with curator Danniel Tostes and Amit Berman.

Skateboards belong in museums too. Pulp68 traces skate culture from the 1950s to today through boards, graphics, objects, books, and stories collected over decades. Raw, personal and refreshingly far from the white-cube museum experience.

16 September – 4 November

Béchir Boussandel presents a body of work that unfolds from shadow and the heat of desert palettes. Through paintings, sculptures and delicate bird watercolours populated by anonymous figures, he examines displacement, crossing and survival within North African desert landscapes. The pieces use ochres, reds and material contrast to evoke memory and shifting identities, employing an atmospheric visual language that balances figuration and absence.

2 October – 6 November

Swiss collective PROJEKTIL stages the emergence of life through an immersive audiovisual installation. Site-responsive animated projections and sculptural light sequences transform walls and ceilings, accompanied by an atmospheric musical score. Using cutting-edge technology and layered animation, the work evokes cosmogony and the fragile origins of existence, inviting reflection on formation, scale and temporal unfolding. The piece reveals how digital media can translate primordial themes into sensory, architectural experience.

Visit for non-French speakers inside the exhibition “Fuite au Marché Machin” brings together adults and families for a shared encounter with art and language, guided by Douze Zéro Deux and Annina Meyer. The visit invites participants to observe works, learn new expressions, and speak French in a cultural setting. Open to beginners, advanced learners, children, and French speakers alike, it frames illustration as a space for conversation, discovery, and playful exchange.
