Trajal Harrell & Zürich Dance Ensemble — Twenty Looks (Made-to-Measure)

Free, Booking Required

Choreographed by Trajal Harrell and performed with the Zürich Dance Ensemble, this work for three performers merges voguing with postmodern dance. Drawing on butō and modern dance vocabularies, the piece positions the body as a vessel of memory and historical imaginaries. Harrell’s made-to-measure adaptation balances minimalist formality and stark gestures with the flamboyance and performativity of vogue, underscored by echoes of jazz, funk and R&B. The result is a layered, speculative choreography that reframes dance histories and collective memory.

Prima Facie, by Suzie Miller, stages a tense courtroom drama centred on Tessa, a brilliant defence lawyer whose life is upended after she becomes the victim of an assault. Directed by Elidan Arzoni and performed by Anna Budde, the production weaves urgent questions about justice, credibility and power. Danielle Milovic’s lighting and the French translation by Dominique Hollier and Séverine Magois shape a stark, intimate staging. Produced by Les Amis – Le Chariot for Scène Vagabonde Festival.

Directed by Fanny Brunet and Carole Schafroth, this theatrical adaptation of Daniel de Roulet’s novel follows ten young women who emigrate to Patagonia to found an egalitarian anarchist community. Using object theatre, the production blends storytelling, projected images and reflective passages to probe anarchist utopias, working-class conditions, migration and the marginalised role of women in history. The staging is intimate and inventive, inviting thought and emotion through tactile imagery and poetic gesture.

Scène Vagabonde’s seventh edition brings a compact program of contemporary theatre and music, presenting three contrasting stage works — “Par le bout du nez”, “Quadrille” and “Prima facie” — alongside a concert by Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp as part of La Bâtie-Festival de Genève. Across intimate stagings the festival favors inventive direction, close ensemble interplay and a balance of wit and intensity, offering encounters that privilege physical presence, tonal variety and rigorous dramaturgy.

Cellist Estelle Revaz and harpist Laudine Dard form a striking duo that dives into the Hispanic repertoire with Amor y pasión. By making their instruments converse, they explore works by Piazzolla, Gardel, Cassadó, Granados and Ginastera, blending the cello’s deep voice with the harp’s radiant colours. Tangos, heightened lyricism and popular tunes fuel a programme of passion and virtuosity. Revaz, internationally recognised and active in Swiss cultural and political life, brings intensity and stage presence.

25 September – 18 October

For his final production as a theatre director, Jean Liermier revisits Tennessee Williams’s autobiographical classic about memory, longing and family. Set in the 1930s American South, the staging gathers a company around Laura, here embodied by Aurélia Thierrée, with Cyprien Colombo, David Gobet and Clotilde Mollet completing the ensemble. Liermier’s direction emphasises fragile interiors and poetic movement, offering a liberating, weightless atmosphere that balances tenderness and uneasy nostalgia.
