Finissage – Sylvia Sleigh and Refaire Collection

As a closing highlight for Sylvia Sleigh and Refaire collection, the MAMCO stages a special day centred on short guided visits and a final encounter with the works before they come down. In just 30 minutes, the tours revisit Sleigh’s subversion of gender codes and the feminist questions raised by Refaire collection. The programme extends the reflection beyond the museum, with an evening of screenings devoted to Czech filmmaker Věra Chytilová and her singular cinematic language.

8 October – 21 November

Mirella Jaworska’s first solo exhibition presents paintings from 2026 that conjure the uncertain light of waking, when dream and reality blur. Drawing on early Renaissance masters and Japanese painting, Jaworska composes intimate tableaux populated by faces, flowers, skulls, cigarettes and studio objects, alongside recurring figures such as a jockey, a sphinx and a chair pierced by a heart. Her layered brushwork and muted palette explore memory, loss and melancholic reverie.

17 September – 3 November

Swiss artist Seline Burn presents a series of about a dozen paintings that explore liminal territories where identities, emotions and relationships transform. Figures in motion, in relation or in passage emerge from an omnipresent water, which functions as memory, inner landscape and dream space. Recurring colours weave a sensitive thread through contrasts and tensions across the works. The exhibition encourages contemplation of ambivalence and the possibility of finding forms of belonging within transient states.

Permanent exhibition

More a time capsule than a traditional museum. Step into Countess Zoubov’s elegant 18th-century world, where furniture, paintings, porcelain, and decorative arts remain arranged much as she intended in the 1950s. Among the 525 recorded pieces are numerous objects connected to Catherine II’s Russia.

29 January – 25 October

John M Armleder presents an interchange-based exhibition that foregrounds objects drawn from students’ suitcases. Through object-based works and subtle interventions, the show probes modes of observation, intimacy and collective memory. Personal belongings are rearranged as visual prompts that evoke histories, pedagogy and everyday cinematics. The artist’s restrained interventions invite reflection on how small domestic items circulate meanings and facilitate encounters, revealing how private narratives surface within a communal field of attention.

18 September – 31 October

Swiss artist Pierre André Ferrand presents a restrained body of work that examines the conditions of image-making and the illusionistic nature of painting. The show brings together oils on canvas and works on paper, employing a deliberate economy of means, pared visual codes, and an intimate awareness of artistic limits. For more than thirty years his practice has pursued an intellectual and spiritual enquiry, inviting a slow, contemplative viewing that seeks out potential and subtle perceptual shifts.

14 October – 27 November

Through a series of sketches made from life, Joël Alessandra takes a sensitive and poetic look at Carouge. This open-air exhibition invites you to rediscover the city from an artistic angle, between heritage, scenes of life and urban atmospheres.
