Nos empereurs

FURTHER AFIELD

Created by Guillaume Cayet, Nos empereurs is a decolonial saga that plunges into the white and French presence in Benin from 1895 to today. The play follows Armand Lamarque, a French army captain turned palm-oil planter whose convictions collide with local realities and drive him toward madness. Combining family epic, historical fable and magical realism, Cayet interrogates the legacy of French colonialism and its contemporary survivals. Produced by Compagnie Le désordre des choses and La Comédie de Valence – CDN Drôme-Ardèche.

Directed by Jérémy Guérard, La femme parfaite traces a daughter’s confrontation with her dying mother and the inherited patterns that bind three generations of women. Through intimate staging, moments of therapy and delicate origami sequences, the production untangles memory, family conditioning and desires for emancipation. The piece weaves ghosts of the past into a portrait of love and liberation, pairing rigorous dramaturgy with emotional clarity. The performance is followed by a discussion with the audience.

Je ne suis pas Johnny is a theatrical exploration of identity, memory and the weight of cultural myth. Prima Facie, by Suzie Miller, stages a tense courtroom drama centred on Tessa, a brilliant defence lawyer whose life is upended after she becomes the victim of an assault. Danielle Milovic’s lighting and the French translation by Dominique Hollier and Séverine Magois shape a stark, intimate staging. Produced by Les Amis – Le Chariot for Scène Vagabonde Festival.

For his final production as a theatre director, Jean Liermier revisits Tennessee Williams’s autobiographical classic about memory, longing and family. Set in the 1930s American South, the staging gathers a company around Laura, here embodied by Aurélia Thierrée, with Cyprien Colombo, David Gobet and Clotilde Mollet completing the ensemble. Liermier’s direction emphasises fragile interiors and poetic movement, offering a liberating, weightless atmosphere that balances tenderness and uneasy nostalgia.

Directed by Fanny Brunet and Carole Schafroth, this theatrical adaptation of Daniel de Roulet’s novel follows ten young women who emigrate to Patagonia to found an egalitarian anarchist community. Using object theatre, the production blends storytelling, projected images and reflective passages to probe anarchist utopias, working-class conditions, migration and the marginalised role of women in history. The staging is intimate and inventive, inviting thought and emotion through tactile imagery and poetic gesture.
