Reggie Khumalo: Open Art Studio

Free, Booking Required

Artist Reggie Khumalo transforms the gallery into an open studio, producing new works on-site that blend painting, collage and mixed-media installation. His practice combines figurative painting with found materials and layered surfaces to explore memory, identity and social histories. Visitors are invited into the artist’s process as he experiments with scale, texture and colour, developing works that will be unveiled at upcoming fairs. The presentation emphasises materiality, narrative fragments and the performative aspects of making.

Celebrating the richness of contemporary artistic creation, this encounter offers an engaging visual experience where each artist’s work enhances and resonates with the other, opening new perspectives on the dialogue between two- and three-dimensional forms.

An extensive survey assembled from a long-standing research collection devoted to glass, this exhibition takes a contemporary look at a millennia-old material. Over two hundred glass and mixed-media works, including sculptural objects, design pieces and installations, testify to a transdisciplinary experimental spirit. Featuring artists such as Ettore Sottsass, Pierre Charpin, Betty Woodman, Bob Wilson, Giuseppe Penone, Jana Sterbak and James Lee Byars, the show examines materiality, technique and the porous boundaries between craft, design and contemporary art.

Our eyes are naturally drawn to light and what shines. Yet what could be more fascinating than shadow? Shadows have enabled many fundamental discoveries: the shape of the Earth, the calculation of its circumference, the identification of electrons, and the understanding of planetary motion. They accompany us and enrich our thinking. Come and explore them to learn more about their role in science.

Exhibition in French & in English.

20 May – 4 July

Physis presents a two-person dialogue between sculptor Ernst Gamperl and the drawing practice of Shunshun. Gamperl’s internationally recognised sculptures, rooted in exceptional woodwork, explore growth, material presence and a generative life force. Shunshun’s delicate, layered line drawings shift from architectural training to intimate studies of spatial depth and quiet emotional resonance. Together the works consider intergenerational perspectives on form, technique and the elemental meanings of nature.

Opening: Wednesday 20 May, 17:00

6 – 21 June

Three artists—Adriana Passini, Frédérique Haessig and Érica Mugny—present a collective exhibition that traces a dialogue between poetry and the natural world. Passini’s delicate engravings, Haessig’s carved stone sculptures and Mugny’s mixed-media paintings explore gesture, texture and material memory. The show foregrounds traditional print and sculptural techniques alongside painterly surfaces, and references several illustrated volumes produced in collaboration with the artists, offering a thoughtful encounter with form and narrative.

Opening: Friday 5 June, 18:30
