Speaking Joy: Reading and Discussion

Kiyémis is an author, afrofeminist poet and speaker who explores self‑love, body positivity and the visibility of Afro‑descendant women in Europe. She hosted the programme ‘Rends La Joie’ and edited the volume Pour la joie.

This reading and discussion examines how joy functions as a practice of resistance and cultural affirmation, addressing themes of self‑love, embodiment and political visibility. Kiyémis reads from her work, discusses poetic strategies and invites reflection on collective and individual approaches to reclaiming joy amid social exclusion.

This event presents Parlons Prisons, an anticarceral collective based in Geneva, and the book Parlons Prisons – dedans et dehors contre l’enfermement. The volume gathers testimonies from people deprived of liberty, their relatives and activists, and analyses the prison as a tangible instrument of social control that destroys lives. Italian guitarist Carlo Marchione, guest artist and specialist in transcription and arrangement for the classical guitar, leads a weekend of concerts, masterclasses and a conference with HEM guitar students. Across sessions he examines strategies for transcription and arranging repertoire for guitar, demonstrating techniques and pedagogical approaches for adapting music from other media. The programme balances performance and hands-on learning, offering participants insight into artistic and technical decisions in arrangement practice.

An interdisciplinary workshop investigating how Christian actors and value systems have shaped multilateral institutions and norms. Participants examine contributions of churches, Christian NGOs and individuals to the multilateral system, the circulation and secularization of religious values, and the impact of Christian frameworks on family policy, women’s rights, human rights and corporate social responsibility. The programme foregrounds underrepresented actors, spatial and institutional settings, and temporal dynamics from the twentieth to the twenty-first century, fostering comparative and transnational perspectives.

Cécile Auberson (InfoFauna, specialist on beavers), Fabrice Delaye (grand reporter for Heidi.news with 25 years covering science), Jean Bacchetta (anthropologist, University of Neuchâtel) and Andreas Ensslin (curator at the Conservatory and Botanical Garden of Geneva, seed bank manager) offer expertise on species reintroduction and conservation.

This session presents the new Heidi.news issue on “Return to the Wild” and a roundtable examining species reintroductions across Switzerland — from beavers to bison and wild garlic. Panelists discuss scientific evidence, practical results and ethical controversies, while a photographic exhibition showcases images by Ami Vitale, Lech Wilczek and Jérémy Rico.

Designed for emerging professionals and recent graduates, this workshop explores puppetry through the creation of a short performance. Four to five young artists are supported through a guided process from idea to stage, with mentorship in direction, dramaturgy and construction. Participants develop a compact work presented at a public work-in-progress showcase. The programme also offers the chance to win a fully funded four-week training placement in 2027 at Odradek, near Toulouse.
