Christian Internationalisms and Multilateralism

An interdisciplinary workshop investigating how Christian actors and value systems have shaped multilateral institutions and norms. Participants examine contributions of churches, Christian NGOs and individuals to the multilateral system, the circulation and secularization of religious values, and the impact of Christian frameworks on family policy, women’s rights, human rights and corporate social responsibility. The programme foregrounds underrepresented actors, spatial and institutional settings, and temporal dynamics from the twentieth to the twenty-first century, fostering comparative and transnational perspectives.

Participants manually disassemble phones to identify secondary materials and pathways for recycling, learning how careful, fine disassembly preserves valuable components. Selected parts will be kept for use in later Tech‑Nostalgie workshops, linking material recovery to creative reuse.

Catarina von Wedemeyer, Maître d’enseignement et de recherche at the University of Geneva, is a specialist in Latin American literatures. She held a Humboldt fellowship at Columbia University and is author of Offene Dialektik.

This bilingual series examines Borges’ key stories in relation to twentieth‑century movements such as ultraism and fantastic literature, debating New Historicism and universality. Sessions offer comparative readings with Victoria Ocampo, Silvana Ocampo and Adolfo Bioy Casares, and address poetic analysis and Borges’ cultural interests.

Three researchers present short talks examining science across radically different scales. Alexander Battey, a postdoctoral researcher in plasma physics at EPFL and the Swiss Plasma Center, explains the plasma state and the challenges of achieving controlled fusion. Henriette Rødland, a postdoctoral researcher at the ARCAN Laboratory (UNIGE), shows how small archaeological finds in Zanzibar reveal broad social histories and trade networks. Baba Ekundayo, senior scientist and wet‑lab manager at the Laboratory of Biological Electron Microscopy (EPFL), introduces the molecular machines that copy DNA.
