Patrick Chappatte, an internationally renowned editorial cartoonist, discusses his practice and his intimate relationship to the line. Drawing on decades of experience, he examines the constraints and liberties of the profession, the birth of an image and the visual synthesis of current affairs. The conversation also explores the role of humour and provocation in editorial drawing.

Arnaud Laporte, journalist at France Culture and professor in art schools, moderates the exchange, guiding reflections on technique, ethics and public impact.

Dmitri Petrov, author of Le Jour des parents, presents his book written in homage to his son, Dmitri junior, an internationalist anarchist fighter killed in Bakhmut in 2023.

This session pairs a screening of the documentary Le Chemin de la liberté (directors Pierre Chamechaude and Christophe Cordier) with a conversation. It examines the motivations and ethical tensions of internationalist volunteers in Ukraine, reflects on personal loss and collective memory, and explores how testimony and film reveal forms of wartime solidarity.

A nineteen‑time award winner, she has reported from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Syria and is the author of ten books, including I Am Malala, co‑written with Malala Yousafzai. In this lecture she discusses frontline reporting, ethical challenges, verification in conflict zones and the craft of telling difficult human stories with accuracy and empathy.
