GIFF – 32nd Geneva International Film Festival

Founded in 1995, the Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF) is one of Geneva’s longest-standing cinema festivals and among the first in the world to integrate television into its programming. A hub for experimentation, encounters, and celebration, the ten-day festival presents films, series, and immersive audiovisual experiences to some 35,000 visitors each year. GIFF also hosts the Geneva Digital Market, Switzerland’s only meeting point for professionals in innovation and audiovisual content, and maintains year-round activities including school programmes and GIFF UNLIMITED events. Recognized as a key driver of Switzerland’s audiovisual sector, GIFF combines artistic ambition with international reach.

CineGlobe, founded in 2007, curates a lively dialogue between art and science, and in its 15th edition explores energy, ecological, technological and generational transitions. Across screenings, immersive projects and hands-on workshops the programme traces moments of state change—gradual and abrupt—where one balance dissolves and another emerges. With a programme ranging from science documentaries to VR and animation (opening film Arco, Oscar‑nominated and Annecy Cristal winner), the festival favors sensory experiments, optical play and a quietly probing, inventive cinematic intelligence.

5 – 7 June

Éclats! gathers leading francophone writers in short, staged confrontations that examine contemporary issues. Each evening pairs two authors — Giuliano Da Empoli and Hugo Micheron; Asma Mhalla and Hervé Le Tellier; Esther Teillard and Frédéric Beigbeder; Kamel Daoud and François‑Henri Désérable — in moderated discussions investigating global disorder, the ethics of AI, gender and style, and migration and storytelling. Artistic direction is by François‑Henri Désérable. Capacity is limited to 80 spectators per evening.

Ed Harris directs and stars in Pollock, a contemplative biopic that traces the turbulent life and creative obsession of painter Jackson Pollock. The film blends raw, physical performances with painterly cinematography to evoke the intensity of abstract expressionism. Through intimate close-ups and textured visuals, it examines artistic genius, addiction and the fraught relationship between creation and self-destruction. Harris’s restrained direction foregrounds mood and process, offering a cinematic meditation on making and the cost of brilliance.

20 April – 7 June

Designed for emerging professionals and recent graduates, this workshop explores puppetry through the creation of a short performance. Four to five young artists are supported through a guided process from idea to stage, with mentorship in direction, dramaturgy and construction. Participants develop a compact work presented at a public work-in-progress showcase. The programme also offers the chance to win a fully funded four-week training placement in 2027 at Odradek, near Toulouse.

Saturday 6 June, 14:00

Malandro, artist and illustrator, leads a practical workshop focused on observational sketching and illustration. He demonstrates quick-study techniques to capture form, gesture and mood with economy and expressiveness.

After a brief tour of the exhibition that inspired the session, participants explore cafés as motifs, practising composition, line work and shading. The workshop examines how simple marks can reveal atmosphere, social interaction and the character of everyday objects.
