Geumhyung Jeong: Toy Under Development

Choreographed and performed by Geumhyung Jeong, this conference-performance blends video projection and sound to examine the uneasy relation between the human body and surrounding objects. Jeong revisits works from Homemade RC Toy (2019) to Under Construction (2024), sharing development anecdotes and reflections on robotics, installation and puppetry. By reworking gestures originally designed to animate objects and performing them without props, she exposes the body as material, using nudity and minimal staging to evoke ritual and altered agency.

Choreographed by Trajal Harrell, M2M reimagines a crossing of postmodern Judson Church minimalism with the exuberant voguing balls of Harlem. Conceived for three dancers, the piece fuses formal restraint and performative flamboyance, foregrounding jazz, funk and R&B inflections within an improvisational dance language. Harrell’s staging negotiates historical narrative and speculative fiction, shifting between precise postmodern phrasing and vivid gesture to evoke community, desire and the politics of movement.

With Jerry Killick among the cast and a strikingly realistic scenography, the production exposes hidden violences, irreconcilable trajectories and raw emotional fractures in a finely observed, tense staging.

For his final production as a theatre director, Jean Liermier revisits Tennessee Williams’s autobiographical classic about memory, longing and family. Set in the 1930s American South, the staging gathers a company around Laura, here embodied by Aurélia Thierrée, with Cyprien Colombo, David Gobet and Clotilde Mollet completing the ensemble. Liermier’s direction emphasises fragile interiors and poetic movement, offering a liberating, weightless atmosphere that balances tenderness and uneasy nostalgia.
