Ensemble de Strates

Artist Sara McLaren offers a sensitive, affective exploration of our relationship to land, place and the trajectories that traverse us. Rooted in a simple question—what binds us to a place?—the project gathers intimate local narratives through encounters and workshops. Stories are translated into earth: participants build layered rammed-earth sculptures, each stratum shaping a testimony. Between personal testimony and collective memory, the installation stages an archaeology of the present, where bodies, words and imaginaries coexist.

Presented from the private collection of Giuseppe Garrera and curated by Andrea Bellini and Giuseppe Garrera, this exhibition assembles an array of diminutive found objects — trinkets, charms, gadgets, toys, lucky charms and fragments of wood, cloth and glass — rescued from mundane life by artists’ gestures. Hovering between toy, everyday artefact and artwork, the presentation explores the thaumaturgic qualities of objects and childhood as a site of refuge and wonder.

Carlo D’Anselmi presents paintings that emerge from imagination, assembling figures, animals and landscapes into dreamlike compositions defined by colour, textured surfaces and a quietly emotive atmosphere. The exhibition considers painting as a silent language that unfolds through attention, light and time, while mountains assert themselves through scale and presence. Developed during the artist’s first stay in Switzerland overlooking the French Alps, the works respond to shifting rhythms and seasonal transformations in the landscape.

The Tender Buttons exhibition offers a multidisciplinary exploration centered on buttons, delving into their identity and historical significance. Featuring over three hundred ceramic and glass buttons, the exhibition interacts with the museum’s works to highlight their role in both formal experimentation and socio-cultural narratives. The exhibition’s architecture evokes the commercial arcades of the 19th century, a pivotal era for button industrialization. Curated by Claire FitzGerald, the exhibition is supported by the Swiss Fashion Museum and showcases never-before-seen pieces from several prestigious collections.

The International Museum of the Red Cross and Red Crescent presents the first European solo exhibition of Guatemalan Maya Kaqchikel artist Angélica Serech (*1982). Pach’un Q’ijul (Temps entrelacés – Deep Time) intertwines ancestral weaving gestures with personal and collective memory, drawing on Serech’s history shaped by Guatemala’s civil war. Using self-built looms and natural materials like corn husks and branches, her works explore resilience, repair, and the deep ties between textile traditions and humanitarian action.

This exhibition explores the careers of Édouard Naville, Switzerland’s pioneering Egyptologist, and his wife Marguerite Naville, whose contributions alongside him are now recognised in their own right. Through archival documents, excavation records and pharaonic objects, the presentation illuminates their archaeological practice and Marguerite’s role, while situating their work within the political, religious and humanitarian commitments that shaped scholarly life at the turn of the twentieth century.
