Book Signing — Simon Edelstein

Photographer and traveler Simon Edelstein presents his new book Les cinémas en Inde — un patrimoine exceptionnel, a photographic report on traditional cinemas across the Indian subcontinent. Drawing on years of fieldwork, Edelstein examines the architecture, social life and memory of these cinema spaces, combining visual study with historical sensitivity. The session includes a discussion of his research and photographic approach and a short reading from the book.

Catarina von Wedemeyer, Maître d’enseignement et de recherche at the University of Geneva, is a specialist in Latin American literatures. She held a Humboldt fellowship at Columbia University and is author of Offene Dialektik.

This bilingual series examines Borges’ key stories in relation to twentieth‑century movements such as ultraism and fantastic literature, debating New Historicism and universality. Sessions offer comparative readings with Victoria Ocampo, Silvana Ocampo and Adolfo Bioy Casares, and address poetic analysis and Borges’ cultural interests.

This workshop explores the traditional process of assembling a herbarium specimen, inspired by Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s collections. Participants learn scientific techniques for pressing and mounting dried plants on old paper, practice botanical labelling and nomenclature, and select specimens to create a personal herbarium sheet. The session examines preservation methods, identification principles and the historical context of Rousseau’s approach, combining practical skills with scientific insight to produce a lasting botanical object.

Through a critical approach to modern and contemporary literature, the talk reflects on the structural impossibility or fragility of the classical model of the coming-of-age story.
