Victoria Hall is a prominent concert hall housed in a majestic neoclassical building. This historic venue is celebrated for its exceptional acoustics, making it a favored destination for music enthusiasts. While occasionally featuring other musical genres, Victoria Hall remains predominantly dedicated to the world of classical music.
The orchestra will perform at the Victoria Hall under the baton of Teodor Currentzis, featuring violinist Vilde Frang. They will present Alban Berg’s Violin Concerto “To the Memory of an Angel” and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 “Titan.”
The OSR, under the batons of Daniel Harding, will perform Jörg Widmann’s Viola Concerto with Antoine Tamestit as the soloist, followed by Wagner’s “The Ring Without Words” . In this concerto, Tamestit assumes roles that go beyond being a violist, engaging as an actor, dancer, conductor, and violist, and interacting dynamically with the orchestra. The evening’s second half is dedicated to Lorin Maazel’s arrangement of Wagner’s “Ring,” which ingeniously transforms the opera into a cohesive symphonic poem.
The OSR and soloist Antoine Tamestit will perform Jörg Widmann’s Viola Concerto, a challenging piece that showcases the musician’s diverse skills. The program also features Wagner’s “The Ring Without Words,” an orchestral arrangement by Lorin Maazel that condenses fourteen hours of music into one hour. The event is conducted by Daniel Harding.
Gli Angeli Genève will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 op. 37 and Symphony No. 3 “Eroica” at the Haydn-Mozart Festival. This concert marks a festival first by spotlighting Beethoven, a brilliant successor to Haydn and Mozart. Directed by Stephan MacLeod and featuring Kristian Bezuidenhout on fortepiano, the event promises an immersive experience into Beethoven’s work, highlighting his mastery of the era while showcasing his revolutionary approach to reshaping musical conventions. This concert represents the orchestral maturity of Gli Angeli Genève and celebrates their longstanding collaboration with Bezuidenhout.
Arcadi Volodos will be performing a piano recital as part of the series “Les Grands Interprètes.” The program features works by Bach/Feinberg and Chopin, including mazurkas, nocturnes, and the Polonaise-Fantaisie op. 61.
Gli Angeli Genève will perform Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice” in concert format at the Haydn-Mozart Festival. Under the baton of Stephan MacLeod and featuring Sophie Junker, Marie Perbost, and Iestyn Davies, this opera signals a departure from traditional opera seria with its mythological narrative and emphasis on the chorus and ballet. The concert-style performances, devoid of sets and costumes, heighten the dramatic intensity, promising unforgettable evenings.
