Le Fumigène: University Improvisation Festival

For its eighth edition, Le Fumigène brings together two contrasting improvisation formats shaped by student talent and quick-fire invention. On Friday, a high-energy match pits the LuDi Île-de-France against Laituge, with an unpredictable referee turning every scene into a playful challenge. On Saturday, Deus Ex Machina shifts into long-form storytelling, where improvisers build a full world from a staging concept imposed by the game master. It is an inventive, collaborative celebration of theatrical spontaneity and ensemble risk-taking.

The result is fast, unpredictable theatre where the ensemble’s timing, listening and inventiveness keep the audience guessing until the very last exchange.

Directed by Eléonore Bonah and staged by scenographer Maria Clara Castioni, CHRÜSIMÜSI transforms Adelheid Duvanel’s terse, poetic fragments into a multilingual theatrical tapestry. Performers Eléonore Bonah and Maria Clara Castioni inhabit hypersensitive, marginal characters whose everyday gestures oscillate between absurdity and tenderness. Sparse staging and a careful interplay of voice and silence highlight Duvanel’s Kafkaesque intimacy, while language shifts (French, German, Italian) create a fragile, dreamlike atmosphere that balances humour and quiet despair, celebrating stubborn acts of resistance.
