Memories and Impressions — 60 Years of Swiss Archaeology in Sudan

Through archival photographs, site plans and excavation notebooks, this exhibition traces sixty years of Swiss archaeological research in Sudan, from the fourth millennium BCE to the Meroitic era. It presents work conducted at Tabo, Akasha, Kerma — including the Deffufa — and Doukki Gel, highlighting discoveries, field methods and the material traces of long-term study.

Carlos Schwabe’s retrospective traces the symbolism and pictorial imagination that defined his practice. Trained in Geneva, Schwabe is celebrated for evocative book illustrations and ambitious pictorial compositions that blend allegory, myth and musical ideas. The Tender Buttons exhibition offers a multidisciplinary exploration centered on buttons, delving into their identity and historical significance. Featuring over three hundred ceramic and glass buttons, the exhibition interacts with the museum’s works to highlight their role in both formal experimentation and socio-cultural narratives. The exhibition’s architecture evokes the commercial arcades of the 19th century, a pivotal era for button industrialization. Curated by Claire FitzGerald, the exhibition is supported by the Swiss Fashion Museum and showcases never-before-seen pieces from several prestigious collections.

22 May – 11 July

Diego Cibelli presents an exhibition that considers notions of futurity and personal trajectory. Through a practice that blends installation, photographic fragments and sculptural assemblage, Cibelli interrogates memory, migration and the acts of anticipating life to come. The works deploy found materials, layered imagery and subtle spatial interventions to create a provisional narrative space where biography, material traces and collective histories converge.

8 May – 27 September

Vladimir Kartashov presents site-specific installations that unfold across historic island spaces, exploring temporal sequences and memory. Through sculptural interventions, architectural adaptations and subtle interventions in sacred interiors, the artist stages a choreography of objects and light that reconfigures perception of place and time. The series juxtaposes material rigor with ephemeral gestures, inviting reflection on duration, ritual and the layered histories embedded in built environments.

Eleven Brazilian artists spanning the twentieth and twenty-first centuries engage in a group exhibition that examines how form is inhabited by belief systems, memory, ritual and everyday experience. Through painting, sculpture and assemblage, the works trace dialogues between modern and contemporary practices shaped by Afro‑Brazilian religions, Indigenous cosmologies and vernacular knowledge. Materials range from painted canvases and carved works to found objects and textile interventions, revealing layered narratives of lineage, syncretism and embodied memory.

22 May – 27 June

Carolina Fontana presents Parallaxe, a first solo exhibition in Geneva featuring paintings from her recent Z·E·N series. Produced through contemplative travels across Swiss cantons, Spain and China, the canvases blend figurative motifs with abstract formations to evoke a transcendent, Zen-informed sensibility toward landscape and the sublime. The works emphasise delicate brushwork, layered surfaces and meditative composition, inviting sustained attention to process, rhythm and the poetic interplay between presence and absence.
