These staged mock trials offer an immersive look at courtroom procedures through three distinct cases: an employment dismissal dispute, a proposal to convert a historic courtroom into a nursery, and a robbery with conflicting testimonies. The sessions let audiences observe judges, prosecutors, defence lawyers, experts and witnesses as they present arguments and assess evidence, revealing how judicial decisions are constructed. No prior legal knowledge is required; the programme clarifies legal reasoning and the dynamics of courtroom deliberation.

Dmitri Petrov, author of Le Jour des parents, presents his book written in homage to his son, Dmitri junior, an internationalist anarchist fighter killed in Bakhmut in 2023.

This session pairs a screening of the documentary Le Chemin de la liberté (directors Pierre Chamechaude and Christophe Cordier) with a conversation. It examines the motivations and ethical tensions of internationalist volunteers in Ukraine, reflects on personal loss and collective memory, and explores how testimony and film reveal forms of wartime solidarity.

Prof. Walter Romero, PhD (University of Buenos Aires), Chevalier of the Order of Academic Palms, is a tenured professor and director of the Dr. Gerardo H. Pagés Institute, with long-standing research on Borges and world literatures.

This lecture examines Borges’s rereading of Voltaire’s Candide and Flaubert’s Bouvard et Pécuchet, investigating how he appropriates Voltairean irony and Flaubertian encyclopedic satire to shape recurring themes — infinity, skepticism, and the limits or defeat of knowledge — and to trace their lasting imprint on his aesthetic and ethical universe.
