UPLOAD – Graphic Design Biennial

The first edition of UPLOAD – Graphic Design Biennial brings together designers, institutions, and the public to celebrate contemporary graphic design in French-speaking Switzerland. Organized by Plan-les-Ouates with HEAD – Genève, the biennial features an exhibition of around thirty selected projects, alongside a competition, conferences, workshops, and guided tours, offering a vibrant panorama of the field today.

  • Exhibition: October 4 – November 7, 2025 (SPARK & La Julienne)

  • Opening & awards: October 3, 6 p.m. (SPARK)

  • Conference day: October 4, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. (SPARK, free with reservation)

  • Workshops for children: October 4 (ages 5+, SPARK) & October 5 (ages 1–4, La Julienne)

  • Guided tours: October 4, 9, 16, 23 at SPARK; October 8 at Imprimerie G. Chapuis

Quartier Libre SIG showcases “BORN IN … PPM” by Mary-Lou Mauricio, an exhibition of photographic portraits that highlight the CO₂ levels from the birth year of each subject. Featuring both well-known and unknown individuals, this artistic project raises awareness about climate change and the urgent need to move away from fossil fuels.

The ASL is marking its 45th anniversary with the immersive exhibition “Léman, l’éveil d’un peuple” (Léman, the Awakening of a People). This exhibition chronicles the fierce battle to rescue Lake Geneva from suffocation between the 1960s and 2000, driven by the collective efforts of associations, scientists, fishermen, journalists, and institutions. It offers a journey filled with documents and personal accounts, reminding visitors of the power of individual action in protecting the lake. The event features a variety of activities suitable for all ages, including fun missions for children, conferences, and guided tours. It also highlights the lake’s current challenges and encourages active engagement in its preservation.

Apocalypses. What Did You See in Hiroshima? is a powerful exhibition curated by Nicolas Crispini, exploring the devastation and legacy of the atomic bombings through testimonies, photographs, films, objects, and soundscapes. From survivor accounts to cultural echoes and traces of nuclear tests, it confronts the enduring threat of nuclear apocalypse and asks whether humanity has truly grasped the magnitude of Hiroshima.

16 May – 11 October

A group exhibition delves into the complex and paradoxical relationship between humans and plants. Acting as indicators of climate change, pharmaceutical resources, or fashion items, plants are laden with diverse cultural meanings. Through documentary, speculative, or experimental works, the artists investigate the status of plants—whether decorative, invasive, or medicinal. The exhibition unravels the myriad representations and values of plants in today’s society, featuring contributions from various artists and institutions like the Conservatory and Botanical Garden of Geneva.

19 September 2025 – 4 October 2026

The Tender Buttons exhibition offers a multidisciplinary exploration centered on buttons, delving into their identity and historical significance. Featuring over three hundred ceramic and glass buttons, the exhibition interacts with the museum’s works to highlight their role in both formal experimentation and socio-cultural narratives. The exhibition’s architecture evokes the commercial arcades of the 19th century, a pivotal era for button industrialization. Curated by Claire FitzGerald, the exhibition is supported by the Swiss Fashion Museum and showcases never-before-seen pieces from several prestigious collections.

30 September – 2 October

Building Bridges returns to Geneva for its sixth edition, bringing together global leaders in sustainable finance to explore innovative solutions and investment opportunities. Over three dynamic days, the conference will feature high-level discussions, hands-on workshops, and rapid-fire solution pitches—all designed to mobilize capital for real-world impact and foster cross-sector collaboration at a crucial moment for sustainability.
