Ryan Ruby, an American writer based in Berlin, is the author of the novel The Zero and the One and numerous essays and reviews in The New Yorker, Harper’s, The New York Review of Books and The New York Times. His recent book-length poem Context Collapse traces a sweeping history of poetry from the Bronze Age to Renaissance Italy and contemporary scenes. Ruby reads selected passages and discusses his work’s themes and the role of literature today with Carolyn Biltoft, associate professor of International History at IHEID.
