An unprecedented exhibition traces the mask’s presence across continents and eras through 84 historical masks and contemporary creations. The displays juxtapose objects from Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania and the Americas without geographical or chronological order, inviting reflection on the universal need to mask. Themes range from ritual, theatre and carnival to cinema, sport and contemporary art, addressing questions of identity, memory and protection through sculptural form, material practices and performative context.
Opening: Tuesday 27 October, 18:00
