La visite de la vieille dame

FURTHER AFIELD

Directed and adapted by Omar Porras, La visite de la vieille dame stages a bitterly comic and satirical examination of justice, greed and communal corruption. Porras also performs the exultant, wigged and lace-clad titular millionaire, shaping a grotesque centrepiece. Fredy Porras co-signs the scenography and Marie Robert assists direction. The ensemble, led by Pierre Boulben and Manon Castellano, navigates between ferocity and jubilation in a bold tragicomedy that decapitates conventions and provokes reflection.

Jaune is a fresh stage piece created and performed by recent graduates Mathis Josselin and Gabrielle Pialoux. This first collaboration explores the many faces of the colour yellow — joy, friendship, tenderness, desire and its more ambivalent edges — with an intimate, playful and sincere theatrical language. Directed by Céline Goormaghtigh and written by Anne Berest, LA VISITE probes maternal instinct with sharp humour and urgent intensity. In a compact domestic setting, a young mother at the limits of endurance confronts visitors while her defenses dissolve; a trio of actresses whirl and collide, delivering a caustic torrent of language and revealing movement. The work explores ‘matraissance’—the birth of motherhood—balancing lucidity, rage and tenderness to unsettle familiar myths about maternal bliss.

For his final production as a theatre director, Jean Liermier revisits Tennessee Williams’s autobiographical classic about memory, longing and family. Set in the 1930s American South, the staging gathers a company around Laura, here embodied by Aurélia Thierrée, with Cyprien Colombo, David Gobet and Clotilde Mollet completing the ensemble. Liermier’s direction emphasises fragile interiors and poetic movement, offering a liberating, weightless atmosphere that balances tenderness and uneasy nostalgia.

Two short plays by Anton Chekhov staged by Tibor Ockenfels and Flavie Tapparel, presented as compact dramatic machines where romantic comedy masks escalating confrontations between desire, affection and material interest. Performances rely on precise physical timing, terse exchanges and a lean, playful design to reveal the simmering violence behind courtship rituals. The three actors — Estelle Bridet, Matteo Prandi and Raphaël Vachoux — inhabit heightened character types that shift between farce and darker comic truth, creating a sharply observed, kinetic evening.

Told as a solo performance, this piece follows a woman as she remembers the films that shaped her life and blurs the line between cinema and memory. Through references to science-fiction sagas and cinematic archetypes — the woman-soldier, the survivor, the reluctant mother — the show probes identity, fear of change and the ways stories migrate from screen to skin. Sparse staging and intimate narration create a haunting, introspective atmosphere.
