Childish Things and Oddities: Vertigo of a Collection

Presented from the private collection of Giuseppe Garrera and curated by Andrea Bellini and Giuseppe Garrera, this exhibition assembles an array of diminutive found objects — trinkets, charms, gadgets, toys, lucky charms and fragments of wood, cloth and glass — rescued from mundane life by artists’ gestures. Hovering between toy, everyday artefact and artwork, the presentation explores the thaumaturgic qualities of objects and childhood as a site of refuge and wonder.

This exhibition pays tribute to Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, a seminal figure of Australian Aboriginal art and a pioneer of the Western Desert painting movement. Drawing on Dreaming stories and the ancestral landscapes of his Anmatyerre heritage, Possum translated traditional sand and body painting motifs into monumental canvases that intertwine myth, geography and memory. His richly patterned, large-scale works balance Indigenous cosmology with a striking sense of modern abstraction, affirming his lasting influence on global contemporary art.

Opening during the Nuit des Bains, Thursday 22 January, from 18:00.

18 February – 23 December

Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s herbarium, compiled in the 1770s for the printer-bookseller Charles-Joseph Panckoucke, is presented through preserved pressed specimens, its original catalogue and related botanical publications. The historical collection combines scientific observation and aesthetic arrangement, revealing Enlightenment approaches to collecting, classification and the popularisation of plant study. Detailed notes and annotations illuminate Rousseau’s techniques and the materiality of specimens, inviting reflection on how personal curiosity and scholarly networks shaped early modern natural history.

19 February – 9 May

Zoe A. Keller and Batia Suter present a collaborative project that reframes the Eranos archives—about 3,000 archetypal images compiled by Olga Fröbe-Kapteyn and held at the Warburg Institute—as material for critical and photographic inquiry.
Taking the form of a critical essay and a photographic installation, the work questions and re-signifies these images, confronting their entanglement with universalist and violent ideologies. The artists propose the notion of the ‘anarchétype’ to reveal archetypal figures as unstable cultural constellations.

12 March – 20 June

May 1972 is an exhibition dedicated to Salvatore Emblema (Naples, 1929–2006), bringing together works produced between the late 1960s and the early 1980s. Across paintings, sculptures and installations, Emblema refines a conceptual language that interrogates materiality, form and temporality. The presentation highlights his experimental use of found materials, assemblage and reductive gestures, situating these works within postwar Italian avant‑garde practices and the artist’s evolving exploration of spatial and epistemic limits.

2 April – 17 May

Documents d’artistes Genève marks five years with Five Years, Stuck on My Eyes, a multifaceted exhibition gathering more than 40 affiliated artists. Through collaborative and networked practices the show presents works across media, exploring collective identity, artistic networks and contemporary social concerns.
Three distinct curatorial positions (Marie Bassano, Jill Gasparina, Caroline Honorien) and a capsule curated by Laurence Favez offer intersecting perspectives that reveal how collaboration shapes artistic identity and practice.

13 March – 9 May

Through a diversity of practices and generations, this group exhibition explores different artistic approaches to the natural world and its representation.
