With a beguiling blend of electronics, art pop, saudade and Latin alternative rock, Ão has become one of Belgium’s most vibrant acts. Rooted in Mozambican and Portuguese heritage, vocalist Brenda Corijn sings in Portuguese and English with a warm, magnetic tone, supported by Siebe Chau’s guitar, Jolan Decaestecker’s electronics and Bert Peyffers’ percussion. Their new album Malandra deepens their sound with greater rhythm and rougher textures, brought to life in dynamic live performances.
Scène Vagabonde’s seventh edition brings a compact program of contemporary theatre and music, presenting three contrasting stage works — “Par le bout du nez”, “Quadrille” and “Prima facie” — alongside a concert by Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp as part of La Bâtie-Festival de Genève. Written by Julie Gilbert and directed by Lou Ciszewski, Quoiqu’il arrive. Respire. follows Joana, a thirty-something MMA teacher running exclusively female classes. After a lost fight and an injury, she reflects on what it means to fight and to stand up as a woman in today’s society. The piece blends physical combat and metaphorical struggle, exploring how women claim space, resist assigned roles and sustain presence. Directed by Françoise Courvoisier, this production of Anton Chekhov’s Oncle Vania — translated by Arthur Adamov — assembles a committed ensemble (Vincent Bonillo, Pierre Dubey, Bérangère Mastrangelo, Patricia Mollet-Mercier, Clarisse Morizot, Pierre Omer, Juliana Samarine, Edmond Vuilloud) to explore love, the passage of time and illusions lost. Written by Stéphane Bouquet, Six heures plus tard is an intimate stage performance for two performers that explores the fragile bonds between a man and a woman through poetic text, live-filmed images, spare lighting and pared-down stage presence. The piece treats silence as a shared, collective resource and recomposes itself according to each venue’s architecture and the state of the bodies, creating an unusual proximity and contemplative atmosphere.

Directed by Nathalie Cuenet and written by Valérie Poirier, Dire adieu is performed by Compagnie Volodia. The piece stages fragmented conversations between a daughter and her mother, probing a quest for recognition and the fragile possibility of reconciliation. Its form recalls the codes of Greek tragedy, using heightened language and concentrated staging to explore memory, silence and unresolved grief. The ensemble creates a tense, intimate atmosphere that makes emotional rupture palpable.
