80th Concours de Genève — Prizewinners’ Concert

Presented in partnership with the Institut National Genevois, this closing concert brings together prizewinners of the Geneva Competition: violist Brian Isaacs and the Quatuor Elmire. The programme centres on Beethoven’s Quintet alongside two contrasting works, offering intimate chamber music textures. The performers favour clarity of line and heated interplay, shaping a narrative of tenderness and tension. Lighting and staging are understated, focusing attention on timbral richness and communicative ensemble playing to create a luminous, emotionally precise evening.

Told as a solo performance, this piece follows a woman as she remembers the films that shaped her life and blurs the line between cinema and memory. Through references to science-fiction sagas and cinematic archetypes — the woman-soldier, the survivor, the reluctant mother — the show probes identity, fear of change and the ways stories migrate from screen to skin. Sparse staging and intimate narration create a haunting, introspective atmosphere.

To mark the Concours de Genève’s 80th edition, this opening concert brings together pianist Kevin Chen and cellist Michiaki Ueno, both former first-prize winners of the competition. Beethoven Cycle 1

Conductor Daniele Gatti leads a program of Beethoven’s Symphonies Nos. 1, 4 and 5, tracing the composer’s journey from Classical roots to a daring, individual voice. Les Encyclopédiennes – “Vous avez dit Bel Canto ?”

Conceived as a dialogue between historical research and live performance, this second edition of Les Encyclopédiennes explores bel canto and the first currents of Italian Romanticism. Musicians from L’Encyclopédie shape a refined programme that moves from lecture and vocal reflection to concert performance, with Bénédicte Tauran in the workshop and young talents from the HEM in the Ex-Libris concert. The atmosphere is intimate, lyrical, and intellectually charged.
