Located within the EMA music school in the Plainpalais district, Le Chaudron is one of the school’s concert and recording venues. Throughout the year, it hosts a diverse array of concerts featuring contemporary artists spanning genres from jazz to metal. These performances are occasionally preceded by masterclasses conducted by the guest musicians, providing a unique opportunity for both students and the public to engage with accomplished professionals in an intimate setting.
Led by bassist Etienne Mbappé, this carte blanche presentation by the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne honours James Brown’s legacy through a blend of jazz, funk and soul. Vocalist Raphaël Descotes and a band including Fabrizio Fresu (trumpet), Oleksandr Vorobiov (saxophone), Didier Yon (trombone), Simon Tinguely (guitar) and Louis Gourmaud (drums) shape tight grooves, dynamic solos and raw call-and-response. The programme balances reverence and reinvention, offering warm, rhythmic energy and cinematic horn textures.
Hosted by pianist and organiser Nicolas Hafner, this open mic celebrates francophone song and invites singers and musicians to step on stage and share the pieces that move them. Guided by Hafner and his collaborators, the evening privileges musical exchange, the joy of live performance and a diversity of repertoires. Original compositions are welcome and performers are supported by a resident backing ensemble featuring Carine Tripet (voice), Théodore Monnet (accordion) and François Torche (drums).

Seamus Blake presents an expansive tribute to Eddie Harris, exploring the electric saxophonist’s blend of jazz, rock, funk, soul and R&B. Backed by a quartet of younger, adventurous musicians, Blake reinterprets classics such as Compared to What, Listen Here and Funkorama with rich tonal colors and improvisational depth. The programme highlights Harris’s use of amplification and genre-crossing grooves, combining lyrical sensitivity with muscular rhythmic drive to create a vivid, contemporary jazz experience.
The High Five brings together some of the finest hot-jazz musicians from French-speaking Switzerland. Their program mixes classic standards with relaxed virtuosity, offering sparkling, buoyant arrangements that celebrate swing and tradition.
