Located within the EMA music school in the Plainpalais district, Le Chaudron is one of the school’s concert and recording venues. Throughout the year, it hosts a diverse array of concerts featuring contemporary artists spanning genres from jazz to metal. These performances are occasionally preceded by masterclasses conducted by the guest musicians, providing a unique opportunity for both students and the public to engage with accomplished professionals in an intimate setting.
Led by Matthieu Llodra with guest musicians, this evening blends jazz, funk, electro and contemporary sounds in a fluid mix of live performance and improvisation. The format alternates composed material and open jams that invite both musicians and audience into a collective groove. Expect shifting textures, rhythmic intensity and moments of spontaneous interplay where the energy of the room becomes part of the music.
Marc Perrenoud (piano) and Christoph Irniger (saxophone) present a duo that reimagines standards and weaves original compositions with elegance, freedom and improvisation. Drawing inspiration from Lennie Tristano, they transform familiar melodies into new lines, evidenced in pieces such as Dry Sensation and Déjà Vu, exploring delicate interplay, rhythmic subtlety and spontaneous dialogue. The programme, taken from their recent album New Lines, balances lyrical reflection with moments of joyful intensity and open-ended musical conversation.
Coordinated by Stan Breynaert, this PrePro Evening presents two student-led projects, DELCIA and ARTHUR, showcasing emerging musical voices from eMa’s PrePro programme. Each project unfolds its own musical universe through original compositions and personal approaches to sound, inviting attentive listening and reflection. External experts observe and offer critical feedback, framing the event as both presentation and creative lab. The experience is intimate and exploratory, revealing the artists’ developing aesthetics and expressive risks.
Carte blanche to the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne, directed by René Mosele, this program “Manhattan” spotlights the contemporary New York modern-jazz scene. The ensemble — René Mosele (trombone), Valerio Barone (trumpet), Joël Bögli (vibraphone), Christian Quartenoud (guitar), Naziha Acheg (bass) and Louis Gourmaud (drums) — navigates original compositions and fresh arrangements by a new generation including Aaron Parks, Walter Smith III and Kendrick Scott. Expect layered textures, elastic rhythms and intimate improvisatory exchanges.
Trumpeter Shems Bendali leads a quintet that blends modern jazz with Algerian and African‑American traditions, creating a warm, rhythmically charged sound. The band features Shems Bendali (tp), Arthur Donnot (ts), Matthieu Llodra (kbd), Yves Marcotte (b) and Valentin Liechti (dm). Their latest material weaves Oriental melodic threads into contemporary jazz, balancing lyrical soloing with propulsive grooves and atmospheric textures. Presented with the support of JazzContreBand.
An intense evening of extreme metal featuring Adelon, SPRINT, Fulminator and an open jam led by Maxime Hänsenberger’s eMa workshop. Geneva hardcore SPRINT delivers raw, aggressive riffs and frantic rhythms; Lausanne death‑metal outfit Adelon blends brutality, groove and progressive touches, featuring Zachary Lubicz (drums), Titouan Tromme (bass), Quentin Landolt (guitar) and Pierrick Tromme (vocals). Fulminator and the workshop set a feral tone, while the jam invites audience participation. Expect densely layered guitars, pounding drums and an atmosphere of controlled chaos.
