Fred Eerdekens

Belgian artist Fred Eerdekens presents a focused body of work that examines the interplay of sculpture, language, light and perception. More than twenty pieces employ wall-mounted and suspended forms that use projected light to cast words and phrases in shadow, while freestanding sculptures resolve into legible texts only from precise viewpoints. The show foregrounds materiality and temporality, inviting viewers to reconsider reading as an embodied, spatial act where meaning emerges through shifting perspectives and illumination.

Since 2018 his practice explores living dynamics and natural phenomena, imagining a posthuman world where human culture gradually yields to vegetal and animal recolonization. Selected works from the 20th Concours international de céramique present contemporary approaches to clay across functional and sculptural practices. The exhibition gathers emerging and established makers whose pieces range from wheel-thrown vessels and hand-built forms to experimental sculptural objects and site-aware installations. Emphasis is placed on technique, surface treatment and material research, revealing diverse glazing, firing and modeling strategies. Curatorial selection highlights formal innovation and dialogue between tradition and experimentation within contemporary ceramic practice.

The presentation includes a live sound performance and collaborative vocal interventions with Varoujan Chetirian (sound composition), Antoine Läng (vocals and instrument) and Yvonne Harder (vocals), articulating material, temporal and acoustic relations.
