Mouvements Singuliers

Booking Required

An open collective of workshop participants presents multidisciplinary works that trace creative processes across visual and performing arts. The program gathers painting, sculpture, photography and video, alongside theatre and music performances, to explore trajectories of making and ephemeral scenes arising from collaborative practice.
Photographic and filmic fragments, staged moments and sculptural interventions foreground processes of rehearsal, transmission and community. The exhibition examines how workshops nurture experimentation, shared authorship and the evolution of creative ideas.

27 August – 15 November

Jean-Marc Yersin and Antoine Roth present two photographic projects that probe urban and natural perception.

In Cités délaissées, Yersin composes futuristic images of deserted cities where digital dematerialization, climate strain and demographic decline have hollowed out public life; the photographs evoke frozen infrastructures and virtual withdrawal. Mirages sees Roth using a long-focus digital camera along the shores of Lake Geneva to capture rare atmospheric and optical phenomena—mirages, light and reflections—questioning the materiality of landscape and how perception shapes experience.

Ceramics and glass get their moment in the spotlight at the Ariana. From delicate porcelain to bold contemporary pieces, the collection shows just how inventive the “fire arts” can be, all inside one of Geneva’s most distinctive museum buildings.

18 September – 31 October

German artist Olaf Holzapfel presents a body of work that quietly investigates landscape, architecture and vernacular traditions. Working across sculpture, drawing, painting and installation, he foregrounds materiality and craftsmanship, transforming humble materials into structures that mediate between nature and the built environment. The works trace textures of memory and labour, proposing subtle dialogues between form and site. The exhibition emphasises process and making, inviting sustained attention to material relationships and artisanal techniques.

Rousseau was born right here in 1712. Today, his birthplace pairs a permanent journey through his ideas with a lively programme devoted to contemporary literature. Philosophy, freedom, education, nature: centuries later, the questions raised inside these walls still feel remarkably current.

17 September – 7 November

An exhibition presenting work by Garry Fabian Miller, Ptolemy Mann and Marit Tingleff, curated by Sarah Griffin. Across photography, weaving and ceramics, the show explores the darkroom, the dye lab and the kiln as sites of material transformation. The artists draw on deep embodied knowledge and long practice, using process, environment and material behaviour to shape outcomes. The works probe attention to texture, colour and time, revealing subtle relations between technique and the natural conditions that inform each practice.

16 September – 31 October

Antoni Tàpies presents the complete series “Variations on a Musical Theme”, twenty lithographs created in 1987. The suite reveals Tàpies’s fascination with the interplay between visual art and music: each variation establishes its own rhythm, material presence and visual language. Treated as a continuous sequence, the works unfold like a musical score, inviting an immersive reading of process, texture and symbolic gesture within the artist’s graphic practice.
