Pierre André Ferrand

Swiss artist Pierre André Ferrand presents a restrained body of work that examines the conditions of image-making and the illusionistic nature of painting. The show brings together oils on canvas and works on paper, employing a deliberate economy of means, pared visual codes, and an intimate awareness of artistic limits. For more than thirty years his practice has pursued an intellectual and spiritual enquiry, inviting a slow, contemplative viewing that seeks out potential and subtle perceptual shifts.

An expanded presentation of works from the Geneva School and the Lake Geneva region brings together paintings and drawings by Ferdinand Hodler, François Bocion, John Torcapel, Alexandre Perrier, Félix Vallotton, Alexandre Cingria and Jean Roll. The display traces regional artistic dialogues across centuries, from academic realism to symbolist and modernist approaches, highlighting technique, compositional daring and materiality. The collection has grown through acquisitions and generous donations, and includes a very rare painting executed in Geneva before 1650, now shown to the public.

3 September – 1 October

On its 40th anniversary, the association Traditions pour demain commissioned five photographers from Bolivia, Ecuador and Guatemala to present documentary photographs portraying daily life, ancestral knowledge and resilience among Indigenous communities of Latin America. The series explores entangled crises—climatic, social and cultural—that shape their present, using intimate portraiture and landscape studies to reveal survival strategies, intergenerational transmission and forms of resistance. The work invites reflection on living traditions as sites of knowledge and hope.

9 – 20 September

Students from the Centre de formation professionnelle en Arts (CFP Arts) present collective projects imagining Geneva in the second half of the twenty‑first century. Through garments, jewellery, ceramics, videos, comics, choreography, urban furniture, installations and digital or graphic works, they stage speculative scenarios—from utopian reinventions to dystopian provocations. Employing craft, performance, film and design strategies, the works probe technological, environmental and social futures, asking how everyday life, material culture and public space might be transformed.

Opening: Wednesday 9 September, 18:00.

12 July – 1 October

Photographer Florian Luthi’s Fantômes Météores is inspired by the 1954 wave of UFO sightings across France, especially along the Franco‑Swiss border. From one of these accounts he revisits childhood landscapes—mist‑shrouded forests, deserted villages and the Jura—and composes a photographic narrative where truth wavers and legends endure. The series uses long exposures, muted palettes and staged absence to probe memory, collective fear and the boundary between documentary and myth. A collaboration with Fondation Convergences.

3 September – 10 October

Ianne Kenfack Kitio continues her inquiry into representations of Black femininity and the construction of identity. In this photographic work, produced as a cyanotype, she treats the image as a space of transformation rather than a fixed depiction. The piece links material and concept: its blue evokes Ndop indigo textiles of the Grassfields and the artist’s Bamiléké heritage, while the cyanotype’s gradual emergence mirrors identity as an ongoing process of thresholds and metamorphosis.

Opening: 3 September, 18:00

14 September – 17 October

Through textiles, photography, performance, and writing, Vanessa Riera explores the visible and invisible burdens that permeate women’s experiences: norms, legacies, and inherited traumas, but also care, healing, and resistance. The title evokes those micromovements that allow the body to endure, adapt, and transform—gestures sometimes imperceptible, yet profoundly meaningful.

Opening during Geneva Art Week on September 16, 18:00
