Kashi: Kathak from Banaras

Booking Required

Kashi, conceived by choreographer Gauri Priscilla Brülhart to mark twenty years of her career, is a music-and-dance creation rooted in the Banarasi kathak tradition. Inspired by the luminous city of Banaras/Varanasi and the cult of Shiva, the performance blends rhythmic virtuosity, improvisation, narrative gesture and devotional intensity. A company of musicians and dancers trained with masters of the Banaras lineage explores the interplay between tala, melody and footwork. Produced by Sangeet Swiss with support from the State of Fribourg and the Ateliers d’ethnomusicologie.

Told as a solo performance, this piece follows a woman as she remembers the films that shaped her life and blurs the line between cinema and memory. Through references to science-fiction sagas and cinematic archetypes — the woman-soldier, the survivor, the reluctant mother — the show probes identity, fear of change and the ways stories migrate from screen to skin. Sparse staging and intimate narration create a haunting, introspective atmosphere.

An introspective monologue for multiple voices, La Table d’Amour is a poetic theatrical immersion inspired by a Tinos island tradition. Music and songs by Stephen Sondheim with a libretto by George Furth and a French translation by Stéphane Laporte. This intimate, razor-sharp musical follows Robert (Bobby), a charming New Yorker confronting bachelorhood, friendship and the compromises of coupledom. The production blends incisive lyrics, lively choreography and a close ensemble cast to reveal joyful neuroses, hidden desires and fragile bonds. The staging alternates warmth and irony, inviting reflection on love, loneliness and the elusive art of staying together.

Sung in English; dialogues in French.

15 September – 11 October

Directed by Françoise Courvoisier, this production of Anton Chekhov’s Oncle Vania — translated by Arthur Adamov — assembles a committed ensemble (Vincent Bonillo, Pierre Dubey, Bérangère Mastrangelo, Patricia Mollet-Mercier, Clarisse Morizot, Pierre Omer, Juliana Samarine, Edmond Vuilloud) to explore love, the passage of time and illusions lost. The staging, created with scenographer Gilbert Maire and painter André Kasper, uses Rinaldo Del Boca’s lighting, Pierre Omer’s music and Nicolas Le Roy’s sound to evoke both the comedy and the terrifying humanity of Chekhov.
