Alcina — Opera by Francesca Caccini

Directed by Emiliano Gonzalez Toro and Mathilde Etienne, this revival brings Francesca Caccini’s La liberazione di Ruggiero dall’isola d’Alcina back to life with the Geneva ensemble I Gemelli. Mathilde Etienne signs the mise en espace while singers Benoît Capt, Cristina Fanelli, Lorrie Garcia and Emiliano Gonzalez Toro embody sorceresses, sirens and shadowy creatures. The production emphasises vocal drama and chamber-like textures, continuing I Gemelli’s exploration of baroque women composers and favouring stage intimacy without a conductor.
