FURTHER AFIELD

Ce qui nous traverse, choreographed by Nawal Aït Benalla and co-directed with Abou Lagraa, is a visceral dance piece by Compagnie La Baraka that probes the body in an age of technology. Directed by Céline Goormaghtigh and written by Anne Berest, LA VISITE probes maternal instinct with sharp humour and urgent intensity. In a compact domestic setting, a young mother at the limits of endurance confronts visitors while her defenses dissolve; a trio of actresses whirl and collide, delivering a caustic torrent of language and revealing movement. The work explores ‘matraissance’—the birth of motherhood—balancing lucidity, rage and tenderness to unsettle familiar myths about maternal bliss.

An annual mediation project, Fête du Théâtre gathers Geneva’s community around the performing arts, showcasing contemporary and classical theatre, street spectacles, youth shows, circus and magic alongside workshops and encounters. The programme favours collaborative, colourful staging and experimental approaches, blending professional and amateur practices. Its varied formats create lively, tactile atmospheres where humour, wonder and social exchange meet, highlighting regional artistic daring and long-standing partnerships with local cultural institutions and associations.

JazzContreBand celebrates its 30th anniversary with a new creation led by trumpeter Erik Truffaz. Franco‑Swiss musicians join forces with the Orchestre des Alpes et du Léman in Side by Side, a programme that blends classical writing, jazz phrasing and open-ended improvisation. The project explores textural contrasts, orchestral colours and solo interplay, shifting from intimate chamber passages to wide, cinematic swells. Expect nuanced dynamics, luminous timbres and collaborative dialogue across genres.

9 – 16 October

Music and songs by Stephen Sondheim with a libretto by George Furth and a French translation by Stéphane Laporte. This intimate, razor-sharp musical follows Robert (Bobby), a charming New Yorker confronting bachelorhood, friendship and the compromises of coupledom. The production blends incisive lyrics, lively choreography and a close ensemble cast to reveal joyful neuroses, hidden desires and fragile bonds. The staging alternates warmth and irony, inviting reflection on love, loneliness and the elusive art of staying together.

Prima Facie, by Suzie Miller, stages a tense courtroom drama centred on Tessa, a brilliant defence lawyer whose life is upended after she becomes the victim of an assault. Directed by Elidan Arzoni and performed by Anna Budde, the production weaves urgent questions about justice, credibility and power. Danielle Milovic’s lighting and the French translation by Dominique Hollier and Séverine Magois shape a stark, intimate staging. Produced by Les Amis – Le Chariot for Scène Vagabonde Festival.
