Barlovento Sur — New Latin Folk

Formed in 2015 and based in Geneva, Barlovento Sur draws on Chilean, Argentine and Portuguese roots to craft a contemporary Latin folk sound. Founded by Josefa Ibarra (voice, bombo) and Jorge Pacheco (voice, guitar), now a quartet with violinist Luisina Rábago and cellist Beatriz Raimundo, the group blends traditional percussion pulses with open harmonies, lyrical strings and resonant vocals. Their music alternates intimate lyricism and driving rhythms, evoking communal memory and a hopeful, forward-looking atmosphere.
