Directed by Jetske Mijnssen and musically led by Marta Gardolińska, this production of Mozart’s opera (libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte, after Beaumarchais) follows Count Almaviva’s attempts to seduce Susanna as Figaro and Susanna prepare to marry. Mijnssen situates the drama in a revolutionary horizon amid the fading rococo splendour of a frivolous, decadent aristocracy. The staging balances comic intrigue and social critique while highlighting Mozart’s luminous ensembles and ensemble writing.
