Guided Visit: Struggles and resistance of indigenous peoples in the face of environmental degradation?

Join an insightful guided tour organized by MEG and the Bibliothèque de la Cité, offered in two parts. The first segment delves into MEG’s permanent exhibition, highlighting contemporary indigenous art and its critical perspective on environmental degradation. The second part shifts to the SAUVAGES exhibition at the Bibliothèque de la Cité, featuring Claude Barras’ animated film inspired by activist Bruno Manser, which sheds light on deforestation and intensive exploitation in Borneo. The event will have special appearances by Claude Barras and curator Nicolas Rouiller.

Before the Ensemble Les Illuminations performs at the Les Inoubliables festival, celebrating women composers, attendees can join a tour of the exhibition “Casanova, A Libertine in Calvin’s City.” Isabelle Burkhalter, a cultural mediator, guides this exploration of the connections between the Venetian figure, the women he admired, and the music associated with his life.

The exhibition unveils the many faces of the legendary Venetian—abbot, violinist, gambler, spy, and man of letters—beyond his notorious reputation as a seducer. Tracing his stays in Geneva, including fiery debates with Voltaire, it offers a journey through the city and Europe of the Enlightenment with rare loans, vivid anecdotes, and excerpts from his memoirs.

The exhibition invites you on a journey through anatomical models, casts, waxworks, and illustrated antique books. Modern tools like microscopy, medical imaging, and 3D printing uncover the inner workings of organs, currently utilized by medical students at the University of Geneva. This is a collaboration with the University of Geneva. Some images may not be suitable for younger or sensitive audiences.

3 September – 5 October

The Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève, in collaboration with the City of Geneva, is hosting an exhibition at Le Commun during the renovation of its premises. Since 1955, the City of Geneva has supported emerging contemporary artists by offering two grants to artists under 35, enabling them to pursue personal research or studies. Ten artists and designers have been chosen to showcase their work, with an opening event that includes the announcement of the grant recipients.

10 February – 4 October

Editions Zoé, a Geneva-based publishing house, has launched nearly 400 authors, standing out in the French-speaking literary world. Their archives, held at the Bibliothèque de Genève, chart this journey from artisanal printing in 1975 to prestigious literary awards. This exhibition, in collaboration with RTS Archives and Interrail, invites you to explore this rich history of success and discovery.

Apocalypses. What Did You See in Hiroshima? is a powerful exhibition curated by Nicolas Crispini, exploring the devastation and legacy of the atomic bombings through testimonies, photographs, films, objects, and soundscapes. From survivor accounts to cultural echoes and traces of nuclear tests, it confronts the enduring threat of nuclear apocalypse and asks whether humanity has truly grasped the magnitude of Hiroshima.

17 September – 18 October

Axelle Snakkers presents a collection at Galerie Andata/Ritorno, featuring works on aluminum that delve into themes of time, perception, and plant memory. Her oil paintings, characterized by bold colors and recurring circular shapes, interact with light to create shifting landscapes, inviting viewers to contemplate and wander.
