Rousseau at Auction

Speakers include Flávio Borda D’Água (Conservateur, Bibliothèque de Genève), Estelle Fallet (Conservatrice, Musée d’art et d’histoire), Olivier Fichot (commissaire-priseur, Genève Enchères) and Patrick Bungener (Adjoint scientifique, Jardin Botanique de Genève). The session is moderated by journalist Huma Khamis Madden.

The roundtable examines the ethical and scientific challenges of auctioning cultural and scientific objects, using Rousseau’s herbarium as a case study. Participants investigate how high market prices restrict access to collections, explore best practices for preservation and scholarly access, and discuss ways to reconcile collectors’ interests with institutional and public research needs.

Designed for emerging professionals and recent graduates, this workshop explores puppetry through the creation of a short performance. Four to five young artists are supported through a guided process from idea to stage, with mentorship in direction, dramaturgy and construction. Participants develop a compact work presented at a public work-in-progress showcase. The programme also offers the chance to win a fully funded four-week training placement in 2027 at Odradek, near Toulouse.

Biologist Julien Perrot reconnects people with the fragile beauty of life. In 1983, at age 11, he founded the nature journal La Salamandre, which has grown into a respected independent publisher producing magazines, books, documentaries and a nature film platform. Perrot also created the Festival Salamandre and gathers a large online community. In Une vie pour la nature (La Salamandre, 2025) he offers an intimate, anecdote-rich account that explores our relationship with nature and encourages individual action to protect living systems.

Panelists Edward Mandry (Paulette publisher), Mathilde Petit (Lesbian Archives, Paris), Aurore Turbiau (UNIL) and Agnès Vannouvong (UNIGE) bring curatorial, archival and academic perspectives; moderated by Taline Garibian (UNIGE).

This roundtable examines LGBTQIA+ written production in French-speaking Switzerland since the 1970s, exploring mechanisms of invisibilization in literary scholarship and criticism. Panelists investigate archival traces, map cultural histories and discuss methodological tools to reveal norms, prohibitions and social changes reflected in marginalized literary practices.
