LDL assembles soprano saxophonist Urs Leimgruber, pianist Jacques Demierre and analog synthesist Thomas Lehn in a finely balanced interplay between precision and instability. Rooted in European free improvisation and contemporary music, the trio unfolds a dense, hyper-attentive dialogue where structure and spontaneity are in constant negotiation. Sparse timbres, sudden micro-gestures and stretched melodic lines dissolve expectations, while attentive dynamics and subtle electronic textures create a taut, immersive atmosphere that rewards close listening.

About the play
1942. France is under occupation. Seven friends gather to celebrate Sophie’s birthday—until two German officers are shot beneath their windows. Kaubach, a Nazi commander, forces the guests to make an unthinkable choice: to designate two hostages among themselves.
Thus begins a harrowing struggle for survival. By confronting the depths of human nature, the play invites us to question which side we would have chosen.

Pères is a poetic ensemble piece directed by Lefki Papachrysostomou that interrogates fatherhood today. Texts by Julie Annen, Nicolas Tavaglione and Miguel Fernandez‑V are embodied by four actors — Dimitri Anzules, Angelo Dell’Aquila, Serge Martin and Jef Saintmartin — and framed by an all‑female creative team. Lighting by Claire Firmann, sound by Frédérique Jarabo and costumes by Lys Tell shape intimate scenes that alternate tenderness, duty and strain. The work explores filiation, grief and gratitude with rigorous stagecraft and quiet intensity.

The piece is a work-in-progress that plays with ego, irony and timing, offering unpredictable moments that pivot between biting malice and sudden tenderness.

Chekhov’s Ivanov follows Nikolai Ivanov, a middling Russian landowner crushed by debt and by the slow decline of his wife, Anna Petrovna, who is dying of tuberculosis. Across four acts, his inertia curdles into melancholy and self-destruction, swinging between biting comedy and harrowing despair. Written in a ten-day burst in 1887, when Chekhov was only twenty-seven, the play crackles with youthful urgency as tragedy and humor intertwine.

Director–actor Jean-François Sivadier infuses this new staging with his distinctive theatrical energy, pairing veteran performers with fresh faces to reignite the play’s original heat. Echoing Gustav Mahler’s dictum that “tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire,” the production seeks to keep Chekhov’s raw, combustible spirit blazing on today’s stage.

Madame Butterfly, an opera by Giacomo Puccini with a libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa, returns to the Grand Théâtre de Genève in a fresh production. The opera tells the heartrending story of Cio-Cio-San, a geisha who sacrifices everything for her love for an American sailor. Directed by Barbora Horáková and featuring video art by Diana Markosian, this production weaves an intergenerational and intercontinental narrative, exploring themes of tradition and personal expectations. With Corinne Winters as the lead and Stephen Costello as Pinkerton, attendees can expect a remarkable performance, all under the musical direction of Antonino Fogliani.
