Directed by Jérémie Lebreton, La Grande Histoire de l’opéra stages a witty, fast-paced lecture-performance in which Professor Oduris, a prima donna and her pianist condense four centuries of opera into vibrant tableaux. Louis Geisler provides musical dramaturgy as performers Lysa Menu, Joël Terrin and Arthur Noël shift between comic, dramatic and poetic sketches. Set designer Christian Bovey frames sudden temporal leaps with playful visuals while the production, from the Grand Théâtre de Genève, probes the tension between music and text, creating a lively, reflective atmosphere.
