Leonard Bernstein’s Candide is a vibrant concert-opera adaptation of Voltaire’s satirical tale. Bernstein combines Offenbach-inspired wit, Broadway flair and virtuoso orchestral writing to follow Candide’s turbulent global odyssey and the stubborn optimism of Pangloss. This production foregrounds sharp ensemble acting, dynamic orchestration and theatrical pacing, balancing comedy and darker moments. Spoken dialogue is in French while songs are performed in English with surtitles in both languages.
