Veteran guitarist and composer Bill Frisell leads his trio with Luke Bergman (bass) and Tim Angulo (drums) in a program that surveys his forty-plus-year musical language. Initiated by Eve Risser, Ensemble Ensemble brings together five musicians whose roots in Romania, Norway, Alsace and the Dordogne fold folk fragments into an organic sound. Mari Kvien Brunvoll (vocals, electronics), George Dumitriu (violin, viola), Kim Myhr (guitar), Toma Gouband (drums) and Eve Risser (piano, flute, vocals) weave elemental textures where improvisation meets delicate composition. The music unfolds like a map of shared memory, intimate and exploratory, shifting between lyricism and raw rhythmic pulse.
Performed by the Arkhè Quintet — Edouard Liechti, Nicolas Jéquier, Patrick Leyvraz, Arthur Guignard and Pascal Desarzens — this programme gathers musicians from French-speaking Switzerland who have collaborated for two decades. As a quintet they bring Schubert’s String Quintet to life with attentive ensemble playing, revealing lush textures, resonant low strings and luminous melodic lines. The performance privileges attentive listening, intimate dynamics and slow-burn emotional intensity, where close interplay and delicate phrasing unfold a spacious, deeply human sound world.
