Zamakan — Oriental Jazz Trio

Zamakan is a trio led by Egyptian saz master Abdallah Abozekry, guitarist Baptiste Ferrandis and Indo‑Helvetic violinist Baiju Bhatt. Their oriental jazz blends original compositions with improvisation, weaving vigorous rhythms and drifting poetic reveries. The music foregrounds multicultural identities and adventurous interplay: Abozekry’s hypnotic saz, Ferrandis’s inventive guitar and Bhatt’s virtuosic violin create layered textures that move from intimate stillness to incandescent intensity. Their new album Dans le ventre de la nuit frames the project as an assertion of bold, global creativity.

With cellist Lisa Cailleton and Jérôme Gruffel (viola), Jean‑Baptiste Navarro (violin) and Nathalie Saudan (violin), the Contrepoint Quartet traces a repertoire from Purcell to Philip Glass and interweaves Scandinavian folk motifs. Based on sketches by Devos, Ribes, Sylvie Joly, Palmade and Martinez, this theatrical revue sketches the comic microcosm of apartment life. Short scenes expose domestic tensions — marital rows, overwhelmed parents, an unpredictable grandmother and holiday disasters — with sharp observational wit and precise farcical timing. The ensemble slips into vivid characters, combining spoken comedy and physical nuance to reveal tenderness beneath the chaos, offering a warm, incisive portrait of neighbours and family.

Choreographed by María del Mar Suárez (La Chachi), this hybrid flamenco pieces tradition and punk sensibility into a raw, personal language. On stage two musicians and a singer shape a live soundscape that frames La Chachi’s emergence: a dim light reveals her silhouette as she advances and begins an ascension. Her motions coil and break in looping cycles as the music intensifies. Visceral and hypnotic, the performance immerses spectators in concentrated rhythms and fierce corporeal poetry.

Tess Giordano is a singer-songwriter who accompanies herself on guitar and piano. At 17 she brings a clear, intimate vocal presence to songs that blend pop sensibility with contemplative textures. Her single “Promises” has been played on Couleur 3, and she has performed at festivals including Montreux Jazz Off, La Folle Semaine and Gena Festival. As a composer she has contributed to Compagnie Confiture’s musical and the play Quand viendra la vague, and co-wrote a song for the TV series L’Appel de la forêt. Her live set favors close, acoustic moments and warm, lyrical storytelling.

5 – 8 October

Three improvisers and composers — Maël Godinat (piano), William Jacquemet (trombone) and Pierre‑François Massy (double bass) — present a program of original material and carefully chosen covers. Arrangements emphasize close harmonies, intimate interplay and attentive listening, letting sparse textures open into rich, resonant chords. The trio’s sound balances lyrical phrasing with rhythmic subtlety; lighting and silence shape moments of suspended time, inviting a contemplative, warm atmosphere that reimagines harmonic conversation in the moment.
