V° République (On n’a pas trouvé mieux)

FURTHER AFIELD

Led by Sébastien Valignat, this satirical performance traces the democratic misadventures of France through a humorous time-travel odyssey. From the ancient Greeks to Charles de Gaulle and contemporary media, the show links personal civic experience to grand historical narratives to interrogate political organisation. The staging combines pointed documentary references with comic invention, inviting reflection on institutional tensions and current authoritarian temptations. Presented by the compagnie Cassandre, the piece balances satire and critical inquiry.

Directed by Céline Goormaghtigh and written by Anne Berest, LA VISITE probes maternal instinct with sharp humour and urgent intensity. In a compact domestic setting, a young mother at the limits of endurance confronts visitors while her defenses dissolve; a trio of actresses whirl and collide, delivering a caustic torrent of language and revealing movement. The work explores ‘matraissance’—the birth of motherhood—balancing lucidity, rage and tenderness to unsettle familiar myths about maternal bliss.

Told as a solo performance, this piece follows a woman as she remembers the films that shaped her life and blurs the line between cinema and memory. Through references to science-fiction sagas and cinematic archetypes — the woman-soldier, the survivor, the reluctant mother — the show probes identity, fear of change and the ways stories migrate from screen to skin. Sparse staging and intimate narration create a haunting, introspective atmosphere.
