Book Signing — Gérald Herrmann

Cartoonist Gérald Herrmann, long associated with the Tribune de Genève, signs copies of his album Dernier album avant l’IA (Éditions Slatkine, novembre 2025). The book gathers four decades of press cartoons and offers an ironic yet humanist perspective on current affairs. Herrmann’s drawings reflect social and political shifts with sharp humour and attentive observation, inviting reflection on the role of satire today.

Stefano Fiorin (Bocconi University) presents experimental research examining how visible religious identity—women’s headscarves and men’s Islamic beards—affects labor market outcomes in Indonesia. Using a large job portal and incentivized resume rating experiments with employers and job seekers, the study finds that displaying religious symbols reduces employer ratings and interview probability, with similar penalties for headscarves and beards. It also reveals employers’ biased trait assessments and job seekers’ limited awareness of these penalties.

Librarians guide selection of authoritative sources, citation styles (APA, MLA, Chicago), database searching strategies, and reference-management techniques. Participants learn to structure references, apply citation norms consistently, evaluate sources critically, manage citations with digital tools, and streamline literature searches to enhance academic writing and citation accuracy.

Author Victor Dixen presents and signs copies of Les mystères d’Eversand (volumes 1 and 2), offering insights into the world, themes and narrative choices behind the saga. The presentation highlights the linked novels La suivante and La promise (Robert Laffont, April 2026), discussing motifs, character development and the author’s approach to suspense and imagination. A presentation is followed by a signing session.

Catarina von Wedemeyer, Maître d’enseignement et de recherche at the University of Geneva, is a specialist in Latin American literatures. She held a Humboldt fellowship at Columbia University and is author of Offene Dialektik.

This bilingual series examines Borges’ key stories in relation to twentieth‑century movements such as ultraism and fantastic literature, debating New Historicism and universality. Sessions offer comparative readings with Victoria Ocampo, Silvana Ocampo and Adolfo Bioy Casares, and address poetic analysis and Borges’ cultural interests.

This interactive memory challenge invites participants to test their memory while exploring practical ways to preserve biodiversity based on Geneva’s municipal strategy. Players match “before-and-after” images that illustrate individual and institutional actions, and each correct pair reveals concise information explaining the measure. The activity examines themes such as habitat restoration, species-friendly practices, urban greening and policy responses, helping participants understand the impact and rationale behind everyday and organisational conservation choices.
