Viennese Ball of Geneva 2025

The Viennese Ball of Geneva will take place at the Grand Théâtre, celebrating the 200th anniversary of Johann Strauss II. This event, true to Viennese tradition, will feature an evening of dance, ballet, opera, and orchestral music in a festive atmosphere. The Debutantes will perform the opening dance, followed by choreography from the Europaballett Sankt Pölten and vocal performances by Nadia Krasteva and Virginia Sirolli. At midnight, the Viennese quadrille will invite all guests to join in on the dance floor. The Blue Bar will create a cozy heuriger atmosphere, offering Viennese specialties. Attire is formal, requiring evening gowns and tuxedos. Reservations can be made at balviennois.ch and the event is organized by the Association “Friends of Viennese Ball Music.”

There, a chance reunion with his old schoolmate Michaël stirs up past rivalries and awakens an unexpected competitive edge. Jean-François now dreams of redemption by winning the prestigious local dance event, the Night Cup.

Who hasn’t, as a child, woken up in the middle of the night, disoriented, surrounded by mysterious shapes that might be monsters—or maybe friends? “Bachibouzouk”, by the Philippe Saire Company, brings that in-between world to life, blending dance and object theatre in a poetic, twilight performance where imagination takes over once the lights go out.

To kick off the Les Créatives festival, Alhambra hosts a concert featuring Draga, a musical project inspired by Monique Wittig’s “Les Guérillères,” alongside the Swiss group Cocon Javel. Draga, comprising Lucie Antunes, Anna Mouglalis, P.R2B, Théodora Delilez, and Narumi Herisson, delivers an energetic performance fusing activist rock, krautrock, analog electro, and post-punk. Cocon Javel, recognized for their intense and transformative music, blends electronic, experimental, pop, and rock styles, with their debut EP set for release in early 2025.

“Bal Impérial – Boléro” seamlessly blends an imperial waltz with Ravel’s mesmerizing Boléro. Created by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet, this work delves into the social and political roots of dance. The first segment, “Bal Impérial,” marks the bicentennial of Johann Strauss by juxtaposing Viennese music with Japanese percussion, all set in an evocative stage design and costumes by Tim Yip. The second segment, “Boléro,” revisits the 2013 choreography, presenting an intense, visceral dance to Ravel’s dramatic crescendo, enriched by artistic influences from Marina Abramović.

Occupations de Séverine Chavrier, création de la Comédie de Genève, explore les nouvelles politiques de l’amour et les tensions du désir féminin. Entre intime et politique, le spectacle interroge la transgression, la passion et les formes contemporaines de résistance féministe à travers un dispositif mêlant ancien et numérique, quotidien et muséification.
