Tal Coat: Books and Illustrated Works

Pierre Tal Coat’s practice is examined through his intimate dialogue with the book, presenting around forty illustrated and picture-book collaborations alongside a selection of original works. The exhibition highlights his editorial partnerships with leading publishers and encounters with poets and writers, revealing a visual language where ink, print and image engage in precise, elliptical conversations with text. Works range across periods, tracing shifts in technique, materiality and a restrained yet expressive pictorial vocabulary.

Artist Lou Cohen presents a body of work that dialogues between still and moving images. Working with dry pastel, oil paint and short films, she stages interactions within the same installation, confronting static representation with motion. Her practice employs irony and darkly comic tones to translate everyday reality and prompt critical reflection. The works explore perception, narrative tension and the theatrical potential of materials, inviting careful viewing and reconsideration of what images can reveal.

Etienne Francey and Onoko present a collaborative exhibition exploring the mirage as visual and psychological phenomenon. Francey’s photographic practice treats landscapes as memory, rendering familiar scenes with a soft, recollected quality. Onoko contributes more abstract works that distill atmosphere and luminous degradation into colour fields and ephemeral surfaces. Together their pieces interrogate perception, illusion, and the shifting boundary between apparition and documentation, using photography, colour studies and light to destabilize what the eye assumes to know.

23 April – 29 November

To mark 30 years of Hortus Botanicus Helveticus, this exhibition presents the diversity and conservation work of Swiss botanical gardens through thirty panels. Each display showcases living collections and highlights the scientific, conservation and educational roles gardens play in safeguarding plant biodiversity. The presentation combines photographic and interpretative elements with botanical specimens to reveal how gardens document, protect and communicate the value of plant life.

Through archival photographs, site plans and excavation notebooks, this exhibition traces sixty years of Swiss archaeological research in Sudan, from the fourth millennium BCE to the Meroitic era. It presents work conducted at Tabo, Akasha, Kerma — including the Deffufa — and Doukki Gel, highlighting discoveries, field methods and the material traces of long-term study.

18 February – 23 December

Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s herbarium, compiled in the 1770s for the printer-bookseller Charles-Joseph Panckoucke, is presented through preserved pressed specimens, its original catalogue and related botanical publications. The historical collection combines scientific observation and aesthetic arrangement, revealing Enlightenment approaches to collecting, classification and the popularisation of plant study. Detailed notes and annotations illuminate Rousseau’s techniques and the materiality of specimens, inviting reflection on how personal curiosity and scholarly networks shaped early modern natural history.

18 June – 5 July
