OSR Opening Concert

The Orchestre de la Suisse Romande will kick off the 2025-26 season at Victoria Hall with a captivating concert featuring works by Saariaho, Furrer, and Berlioz, under the baton of Jonathan Nott. The evening will showcase pianist Francesco Piemontesi and violist Elçim Özdemir. The program includes “Ciel d’hiver” by Kaija Saariaho, the world premiere of Beat Furrer’s “Piano Concerto No. 2,” and Berlioz’s “Harold en Italie.”

Inspired by the Mariupol tragedy and shaped through months of collaborative work, this urgent and intimate play explores the devastation of war, the fragility of human bonds, and the quiet resilience of those who endure. A raw, poetic tribute to life and to theatre as a space of truth, resistance, and memory.

FURTHER AFIELD

The Montreux Jazz Festival takes place for two weeks every summer in Switzerland, on the shores of Lake Geneva. Created in 1967 by Claude Nobs and directed by Mathieu Jaton since 2013, the Montreux Jazz Festival has become over the years an essential event, generating fantastic stories and legendary performances.

In its 50 years history, Montreux has hosted iconic performances by artists including Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Marvin Gaye, Prince, Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, Elton John and Stevie Wonder. Deep Purple and Prince even helped to write the legend of the place in their songs, while David Bowie and Freddie Mercury came to live in the region and record albums.

The Summer Concerts at the Ella Fitzgerald Stage in La Grange Park present a diverse lineup of free concerts for everyone. From the Music Festival to performances featuring rap, cumbia, soul, jazz, and more, each evening showcases a different musical genre. With artists like Oxmo Puccino, The Lemon Twigs, KNOWER, the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, and Burning Spear, the program ensures an eclectic and international experience, creating unforgettable summer evenings.

10 – 12 July

Over three evenings, immerse yourself in a festival of live music, street art, and diverse culinary delights from food trucks and artisan stalls, drawing over 20,000 attendees and featuring more than 100 musicians and performers. The lineup includes acts from Sika Rlion, Queen Omega, Omar Perry, Gentleman, Breakfast Mood, Alborosie, Junior Tshaka, Jahneration, Koumba Tosh, Sergent Garcia, Cosmic Shuffling, and Capleton. Exciting entertainment like Cirque Production will also be on hand.
