Masterclass: Maria Callas

“Master Class” takes us back to 1971, where Maria Callas shares her vocal insights and artistic ideals at the Juilliard School. Adapted by Pierre Laville and directed by Michel Favre, the play highlights the unwavering dedication and passion required to master the art of singing. Maria Mettral brings the legendary diva to life with remarkable depth and intensity, supported by Lorianne Cherpillod, Sarah Pagin, Erwan Fosset, and Nicolas Le Roy on piano.

Compagnie Ligne 46 tackles the dramatic victim/perpetrator/savior triangle in a timeless staging, complete with grotesque and captivating twists, exploring the ambiguous realm of human conscience.

“Meanders” is a performance by Justine Ruchat that offers a poetic and dreamlike journey through the world, depicted in seven scenes. Utilizing images, words, and an immersive set design, the piece invites a re-enchantment of our perception of life. Audiences, seen as partners in this endeavor, are led on a quest for wonder and reconnection with the essential, blending subtlety and emotion. Inspired by Italo Calvino, the production weaves together visual and sound elements to revive our primal senses, turning each immersion into an act of resistance against modern alienation.

16 – 26 September

“Carafes” is an absurd comedy in 13 scenes, featuring characters navigating the discomforts and small annoyances of everyday life. The humor emerges from awkward silences, mishaps, and moments of losing control, providing a humorous take on those universal instances where one is left “high and dry.”

With a blend of irony and disarming humor, Gary explores the theme of sexual impotence through a passionate love story, capturing it all with great poetry. Jacques Rainier, a businessman in his sixties, becomes hopelessly enamored with Laura, a young woman of twenty-eight.

Their intense relationship exposes Jacques’ anxieties and fantasies, driven by his fear of inadequacy. This novel, adapted for the stage for the first time, delves into the taboos of andropause under the direction of Valentin Rossier. The production creatively incorporates video, lighting, and music, ensuring a captivating experience.

This performance is part of the Scène Vagabonde Festival.
